The assign statement tells the index.liquid template “from now on, every instance of the word ‘page’ in Liquid tags should be seen as ‘pages.frontpage'”. In other words, we’re telling index.liquid to look at a specific page in Blogs & Pages; otherwise it wouldn’t know which page to load.
